What is a Giclée and about ours

The Giclée (pronounced “Jhee-clay”) process was born in the early 1990’s as rock musician Graham Nash (Crosby Stills Nash & Young) & his associate Mac Holbert uncovered a new capability of the Iris Inkjet 3047 printer. These early machines had been developed for digital graphic proofing but it had not occurred to the manufacturer that its equipment would be adopted by artists as the digital method of choice for fine art printing. The first Giclée appeared in 1991. Since this early beginning, the technology in equipment, media, lightfast inks, and craftsmanship have advanced immeasurably. No other printing process offers the incredible look and feel of an Iris Giclée.
Today both the canvases and inks meet archival standards. Unlike offset reproductions, these fine art prints are printed on the highest quality (acid free) 100% cotton duck fabric, this unique heavyweight, quality canvas utilizes a tight weave that is ideal for photographic and fine art reproductions. With a high resolution coating that is pliable enough to withstand stretching and displays a subtle texture for a true artistic look and feel as it is the original. The name, Giclée, comes from a French word meaning, “to spray ink.” The colors are crisp. The details are eye-popping. No dot pattern is visible to the human eye.
