Norberto Clemente 1977 (CUBA) Due to his political position he was banned to attend Saint Alexander Academy of Beautiful Arts (Academia San Alejandro de Bellas Artes), which compelled him to develop his art auto didactically. At 30, despite of the repression he was submitted to by the Cuban government; he managed to immigrate to the USA where he was granted political asylum. At present he continues being a creative artist.
Norberto’s artistic passion came at a very young age when he felt the desire to copy a drawing that a friend had given him as a gift. After that first sketch, everything around him called out to be drawn or painted and he continued to pursue this passion in spite of the difficult situation related to the economy of his country, Cuba. Through his faith in God, Norberto began to understand and develop his talents and grow as a self-taught artist.
Coming full circle from the first artistic elements that shaped his life, Clemente continues to push the boundaries of creative expression.
His highly sought after paintings exhibit the depth of an experienced artist’s hand – and a layering, texture and composition that can only come from someone who strives for perfection.
In his own words: “Very early on art has revealed itself to me as a wild beast that I have only been able to dominate on occasion to steal away some images during its brief and unexpected rest" My inspiration is based primarily on personal experiences I have had since I came to know my Savior. I believe that every moment brings with it the inspiration for a new work of art. For this reason, the transition from one series to another shows a completely different theme. Every piece is unique, just like every experience in our lives. At times I sense that the painting wants to paint itself and all I have to do is allow myself to be guided. It is my desire that at the end of my life every painting will show that I was able to faithfully follow my guide.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
James 1:17
